(Bleach) Shinigami

Shinigami are the Guardians of the souls who are making their way to Soul Society. In the olden times they were known as the balancers who purified evil doing Hollows in the World of the Living and making sure the souls make it to Soul Society. For the Pluses that cant cross over are given a soul burial (Konso.) (Example on the right)

Shinigami are dead beings who live in another world with different logic then The World Of The Living. They possess High Reiryoku (example on the right) and a body made entirely made of Reshi (example right on the ) They are invisible to those who

 don't possess Reiryoku. Souls who possess a

large amount of reiryoku can train their bodies

to become Shinigami.
The most talented ones often get affiliated with The Gotei 13.

Toshiro's Reiryoku

Shinigami also possess a large amount of abilities.

Longevity: They do not age as humans do, they maintain a youthful look for hundreds of years. Such as Yachiru Unohana who is 1,000 years old and Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto who is over 2,100 years old.


Zanpakuto: A Shinigami weapon. They are usually the size of Japanese katana, nodachi or tanto. Lower ranking members are issued a Asauchi sword while the higher ranking officers have a word that matches their soul.

Reiryoku: Shinigami naturally possess high amounts of Reiryoku. The strength of the reiryoku is significantly different between Shinigami.. Lower ranking officers have lower reiryoku then Captain class Shinigami do. For a more powerful Shinigami, it enhances their movement immensely. The downfall of being a Shinigami is having to eat.

    HoHo: The name for all of the high-speed fighting based off of Shunpo.

  

    Kido: Advanced techniques that require a large amount of Reiryoku..

Training

All Shinigami must go through a school founded by the 1st Division captain Genryusai. The school was originally called the Shinigami Academy but was later changed to Spiritual Arts Academy.

Aids During Missions

Gigai: A body used by Shinigami for a short period of time in the World of the Living.

Jigokucho: They are messenger butterflies for the Shinigami and they lead them to the World of the Living as well.

Denreishinki: A vital tool for Shinigami in the world of the living. It serves as a telephone and a communication line to Soul Society. It also locates Hollows and records the kill.
